21-year-old Houston Native Shows Progressive Improvement in First Round of FR Americas Championship
Max Hewitt, the 21-year-old racer for IGY6 Motorsports, made his return to racing this past
weekend at the first round of the Formula Regional Americas Championship at NOLA
Motorsports Park.
Following a three-year break from competitive racing, Hewitt jumped from karts to open-wheel
racing, showing impressive pace. Hewitt competed in two practice rounds, a qualifying round,
and three official races throughout the weekend.
After beginning the weekend qualifying ninth with a best time of 1:36.686 and a best speed of
102.393, Hewitt finished ninth, eighth and ninth, respectively, in his three races. The Houston
native scored eight points total and matched the 1:39 pace set by the leaders during the final five
laps of the third official race. Hewitt posted a career-best fastest lap time of 1:38.456 during his
first official race.
“It’s been almost four years since I’ve been racing, so being as competitive as I was this weekend
was very encouraging,” Hewitt said. “I have no doubt that as I gain more experience, I’ll only
become more of a threat to the competition.”
Along with the IGY6 Motorsports team, Hewitt was accompanied by his driving coach Sean
Rayhall, data engineer Trey Ayres, and photographer/videographer Nick Torres.
“It’s been a challenging but rewarding weekend for me,” Hewitt said. “I’m grateful for the
support of my team and everyone who has helped me get to where I am today.”
Hewitt will be back in action for the next round of the Formula Americas Championship on May
18th at Road America in Plymouth, Wis. You can keep up with Hewitt and the MPH Racing
