Max Hewitt made headlines with his remarkable performance at Road America in the FR Americas Championship, achieving his personal best finish to date. Despite facing challenges throughout the weekend, Hewitt’s determination and skill propelled him to a memorable result.
Hewitt approached the race weekend at Road America with unwavering confidence, having gained valuable experience in a previous event with R3R at World Racing League. He knew that this weekend presented an opportunity to showcase his true potential and shake off any remaining rust from his hiatus.
The weekend proved to be a mix of highs and lows for Hewitt. During the last official practice, he showcased his impressive speed, tying with Nick Persing for 5th place, with an incredibly slim gap of 0.000 seconds. However, a challenging qualifying session marred his performance as traffic, cautions, and red flags hindered his ability to set a fast lap time. Despite starting 9th in Feature Race 1, Hewitt faced an additional setback with a worn-out clutch, resulting in a difficult start. Nevertheless, he persevered and achieved a commendable 8th place finish.
Sunday’s races continued to test Hewitt’s resilience. Despite repairs to the clutch, an unexpected stall at the start of Feature Race 2 disrupted his momentum, causing a collision with his teammate Hayden Bowlsbey. Despite these setbacks, Hewitt faced Feature Race 3 with the same clutch issues, and although he longed for the weekend to be over, he never gave up. Starting from the last position in Race 3, he showcased incredible skill and determination, ultimately securing an impressive 5th place finish.
Hewitt’s performance at Road America was marked by remarkable statistics, including a best speed of 114.2 and a fast lap time of 2:07.259 in Feature Race 3. These numbers stand as a testament to his unwavering commitment and pursuit of excellence.
Looking ahead, Max Hewitt is focused on the next FR Americas Race at Mid-Ohio, scheduled for June 22-25th. With each race, he gains valuable experience and aims to solidify his position as a formidable competitor in the racing world.
In addition to his Formula racing endeavors, Hewitt, alongside his brother Miles Hewitt, will be competing in the STARS Karting Championship at New Castle Motorsports Park. Max will be racing in the KZ category, while Miles will showcase his skills in the OK-N category. The Hewitt brothers’ dedication and passion for racing shine through as they continue to pursue success across various motorsport disciplines.
