Despite Engine Issues, Hewitt Shows Determination and Improvement Throughout the Weekend

Miles Hewitt, the karting driver for TesoroRaceworkx, showed impressive determination and improvement during the Rok Cup USA Florida Winter Tour Round 3 in Orlando, Florida, on March 16th-19th. Despite encountering major engine issues throughout the weekend, Hewitt secured a third-place finish in the VLR Senior RokCup USA Florida Winter Tour Championship with 1469 points.

Hewitt’s practice sessions were plagued with engine issues, but he secured a decent qualifying in only two-tenths off the fifth place. In his heats, he finished in 5th, 9th, and 9th place, respectively, before starting in 8th position for the prefinal and finishing in 8th place. Although he encountered a lousy final that resulted in a minor crash, he secured a 9th-place finish with other penalties and DNFs.

Reflecting on his performance, Hewitt admitted feeling slow and struggling to keep up with his competitors. Still, he also expressed gratitude for the help from John Burke, who coached him and taught him more about karting and how to be faster.

“I learned how to analyze and adjust my driving while under the pressure of simultaneously driving on track,” Hewitt said. “I progressed so much from the beginning of the year to now. I cannot wait for more races with the TesoroRaceworkx tent and to learn more throughout this year.”
